Who is Neil Hurst?


NEIL HURST'S career has taken him from West Yorkshire to the West End stopping off at every major UK theatre along the way. His career began in Musical Theatre in shows such as EVITA, JOSEPH AND HIS AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT and THE LAST FIVE YEARS. In 2003 Neil was invited to play the role of ‘Joseph’ in a series of concerts celebrating the work of, and hosted by, SIR TIM RICE. He still claims nothing is more nerve-wracking than singing ‘Any Dream Will Do’ for the man who wrote those famous lyrics.

Neil has been a regular on the UK touring comedy circuit for over 10 years, supporting stars such as BOB MONKHOUSEMICHAEL BARRYMOREJOE PASQUALECANNON AND BALL and JOE LONGTHORNE. Most recently Neil has been working as support act and straight man to his good friend BILLY PEARCE.

In television, Neil recently played the role of Frank in the BBC comedy drama THE SYNDICATE and Peter - the Medic, in the Channel 4 comedy FRESH MEAT.  He has also completed his third series as VERNON KAY'S comedy sidekick on ITV’s ALL STAR FAMILY FORTUNES. Neil can also be seen in commercials for NHS Let’s Change, EDF Energy and most recently 'Beats' by Dr Dre.


As a presenter Neil has hosted events nationwide for organisations such as Age UK, The Alzheimer’s Society, Costa Coffee, The Resorts Association and many more. Neil has also hosted part of the Olympic Torch relay at various locations down the East Coast of Yorkshire and recently Neil hosted  ‘LA NUIT DE TOUR’, the official Yorkshire launch of the 2014 Tour De France with world-renowned musical theatre star RAMIN KARIMLOO. and the Deputy Prime Minister, NICK CLEGG.
In recent years Neil has successfully started his own theatre group, MADE UP NORTH THEATRE COMPANY, which has gone on to produce three UK tours and six 'one night only' charity gala's. In 2014 Made Up North started producing musicals, starting with THE LAST FIVE YEARS, and  TITLE OF SHOW. Through the success of the theatre work, Made Up North added another branch to the business with DRAMA WORKSHOPS 4 SCHOOLS.

Neil’s work with charities involves him with some great local projects including being an Ambassador for Overgate Hospice, for which he produced the Overgate Hospice Big Night Out in 2011 & 2013 raising over £20,000 for the great work Overgate does for the people of Halifax. He is also a trustee of the Ian Mitchell Trust, which gives grants to Calderdale youngsters who wish to follow careers in the arts. 

Neil lives in the village of Kirkhamgate, West Yorkshire, with his wife EMILY and their daughters KATIE and AIMEE.

After many years on the road Neil now lives in Yorkshire with his wife Emily and their two little girls Katie and Aimee.
